Beach Beneath The Street: 50 Years Since May ’68
May 4 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm£5
This event is part of the Balham Literary festival in association with Wandsworth Fringe Festival and the Institut Francais.
2018 marks 50 years since the unrest of May ’68, when protests erupted around the world. In France, students and workers brought the economy to a halt, and in the UK and US opposition to the Vietnam War reached boiling point.
In all of this, students and young people were the catalyst for change.
At this event, part of the brilliant Wandsworth Fringe Festival, we bring together contemporary activists to reflect on half a century of student protest. Did past uprisings change anything? And what are the lessons for young people today?
Featuring Matt Myers, author of Student Revolt: Voices of the Austerity Generation, Malia Bouattia, former President of the NUS, and Koshka Duff, a PHD student and activist who was controversially prosecuted for writing in chalk on Senate House.
